Coronavirus Update

Dear Mount Gilead Family,

Since things are starting to reopen and the Governor has put out his guidelines, we have been thinking and planning about when and how to reopen Mount Gilead for worship.  In discussion with the deacons we all want to make sure that whatever happens we proceed in a way that is going to prioritize the health and safety of our congregation and the community.  With that in mind we would like to explain our plan moving forward.

We are going to be reopening our Sunday morning worship service starting on June 7th.  We are waiting this long to make sure we can do it correctly and that everyone is safe.  We want you to know that we will be continuing to stream the service online, so that if you are not comfortable coming in person you can still worship with us at a distance.  If you decide to come worship with us in person things will be a little different than normal.

First, we will be worshiping outside.  In thinking about the different restrictions and recommendations of the government we have decided the best way to comply with the regulations as well as to keep people safe with distancing will be to have our service right outside the church, on the lawn in front of the fellowship hall.  We also recognize that it will be getting hot in the coming months, so we are moving the service to 9:30AM.

Next, we will be adhering to guidelines to reduce the risk of possible spread of disease.  This means we will be spreading out, staying at least 6 feet apart from each other.  We will be providing foldout chairs, but encourage people to bring their own lawn chairs if they have them (they are way more comfortable than the foldout chairs anyway, haha).  We also strongly encourage people to wear masks.  We will have masks available if you do not have them.  When you arrive one of our deacons will greet you and offer you a mask if you do not have one, then help you find an area to sit, either with your own chair or one of our foldout chairs.  There will not be an offering plate passed around, instead we will have a box set up for donations, and of course you can always give online or send in checks.  We will not be having Sunday School or child care of any kind, but encourage anyone who feels comfortable to bring their children to the service.  We also encourage everyone to use the restroom at home.  We will have restrooms available for emergencies, but we hope to avoid using them as much as possible.

We understand that this is going to be much different than normal, but we are excited to be able to see one another again.  We hope you all will continue to be flexible in this process as things will be a bit crazy for a while.  We trust that God is still moving and he will use this to help us grow in him.

So to recap:

  • Outdoor service starts 6/7/2020 at 9:30AM (no longer than 1 hr)

  • If you do not feel comfortable attending we will still be streaming online.

  • Bring your own chair/mask if you have them, we will provide them for people who do not.

  • No other activities for now (no Sunday School or Nursery)

Thank you for being supportive and patient in this time.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me or any deacon.  God bless!

In Christ,

Pastor Benjamin Boyd
